‘Tis the Season for Stickin’ to it!

Tips and tricks for following your ph360 during the holiday season.

We are well into December and with only a few weeks of this year left, the season of celebration is in full swing. The festive season is full of cheer, joy and parties. Work break-ups, family gatherings, charity events, and catch-ups with friends are all heaps of fun but if you are following a special program, like ph360, they can be a real challenge. Here are a few ideas for how you can get into the spirit of the party season while sticking to your program.

Moderately Delicious

Sticking to eating the right food is, for me personally, always the most challenging thing about this time of year. I was raised in a family where food played a big part in our family bonding experiences and all my fondest memories of holidays involve a beautifully decorated table covered in mom’s amazing cooking. It can be really hard to say ‘no’ to something that you know is not good for your body when just the smell of that something brings back childhood memories. When it comes to the food, moderation is key. Have a taste if it will make you nostalgic and happy, but don’t overindulge. If you are attending an event centred around a meal, offer to bring a plate. This way you can bring something that you know is good for you to eat, you can pile your plate high with it and just have a taste of the other, naughty, food. Try to fill up on the foods that you know are ‘smileys’ first, so that by the time you get to tasting something more naughty, there isn’t much room left.

Shake it Off!

This time of year can be so busy and bustling, with all the events, shopping, and preparation, that your routine can get really out of whack. When routine starts to falter, it can be difficult to find time for exercise. Things sometimes come up unexpectedly and you may not always be able to make it to your regular yoga class or have time to go to the gym. But you can get creative with working some physical activity into your day. If you’re at a social event and there’s music, have a dance. It really gets your heart pumping and it’s fun! If there’s no music, try to stand and chat to someone instead of sitting. If you’re doing some shopping at the mall, take the stairs instead of the elevator. You may not be able to get away from your busy holiday schedule for a full hour workout, but you can work physical activity into other things. Just be creative and have fun with it.

It’s the Little Things

If you overindulged at the work break-up or just couldn’t face those stairs, don’t be hard on yourself. Don’t obsess over the things you did or didn’t do yesterday. Concentrate on how you can do better tomorrow. If you are really struggling with resisting the food, look at all the other ph360 areas and try to do something that you know will be good for you. Try to find some balance in the other areas. Just do your best and try to keep in mind what this season is all about – peace, love, and family. Be kind to others, but always remember to be kind to your self.
